Wheels are done!

Holy mackerel – the 300+ mph wheels for KillaJoule are done!

Custom front and rear hubs, and four rims for Goodyear Eagle Land Speed tires are finally done! (Two front and two rear rims, to get a full spare set). Rick Larson at Larson Engineering in Boulder is my hero. He has put in at least 50 hours of sponsored time in this project, and he has let me hang out and help in the shop about 20 of those hours.

Next step is to have all the hubs and rims treated with “Irridite” which is a corrosion resistant coating for aluminum. This will prevent the Bonneville salt from turning the rims into white powder…

After that, Woody’s Wheel Works will mount the tires and balance the wheels. Then I only have about a hundred other things to fix on the bike before we are ready to go racing…. 😀

You can see more pictures from the work here: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.505839872785939.1073741825.134690893234174&type=3

I can’t wait to let that rubber hit the salt!

P.S. If you want anything machined, of virtually any size – Larson Engineering in Boulder is the place to go!
