KillaJoule (and I) set our first FIM world record today! Not particularly fast, but perfectly clean runs. Lots of power left to use and three more days of racing. If the speed gods and goddesses are with us, we can go much faster.
Ran two successful runs today and set a small, but real, FIM world record! 😀
With a brand new motorcycle, and especially with a such exotic thing as a streamliner, you are required to start at a slow speed and then increase the speed in increments. The target speed for the first run was 100 mph, and I came in at a 101 mph (101.339 mph to be exacct)! On the return run (which has to be completed within 2 hours for a FIM record) run I opened up the throttle fully, and the rev limit and our tallest gearing gave us 120.075 mph, which were almost right on what the calculations had shown! Since the electric streamliner sidecar class had an open record, this counts as a record. 🙂 The record will be 110.707 mph if I have understood it correct that the record it is the average of the two runs (record is still pending FIM ratification).
As icing on the cake, it is my 30th birthday today! I couldn’t have gotten a much better birthday gift.
We ran the shorter “mountain course” today, which is only 5 miles long but was significantly smoother. The lower tire pressure and firmer damping made the ride less shaky.
We have now changed to a much lower gearing (or smaller or higher or whatever you want to call it, but the rear sprocket is smaller than we had today). We will get in line as soon as we can tomorrow morning, and see if mother nature will give us nice salt and low wind so we can increase it a notch.
